Our Frames

Mouldings
At Mirror Image we only use high quality mouldings so that the product you receive is of the highest standard.
All of our frames are glazed with acrylic to ensure that the frame reaches you in the same condition that we sent it, our frames also come with fittings to hang.
We use two types of wood:
Tulipwood is silky in its texture with some light but distinctive grain, it is creamy in colour, durable and of a light in weight.
Obeche (Boxwood) is soft and porous with hardly any grain, it is creamy in colour and light in weight.

Finish
At Mirror Image we use a variety of processes to create the finish and look you desire:
Natural - The natural look you get with the Tulip wood is similar to that of Beech, it is of a similar shade and has a distinctive grain running through the moulding. The Obeche (Boxwood) is slightly different in its appearance as it has no visible grain running through it. Before your frame is made the wood undergoes a series of treatments using all organic naturally occurring products to create the desired effect, to achieve the smooth finish we hand craft each piece by using a process of planing.
Bees Waxed - After the wood has been treated we offer a range of finishes including bees waxing. We apply the organic bees wax using a cotton cloth to ensure that the wood is not marked when processing and also to ensure the coverage is even and the wax is rubbed into the grain. The finished product has a silky texture and is of a slightly darker shade to that of the natural finish but consequently is protected from the ageing process.
Lime Waxed - Lime waxing is a process which has proven to be a popular choice in the contemporary market. The finished product appears an off white as the wood is processed to have the appearance of a bleached effect. This look is hand finished using a lime cream which is applied on a cotton cloth in several layers, as the layers dry they are sanded back and more of the cream is applied. This forces the lime wax into the grain and ensures an even, smooth finish; the grain is visible through the product enhancing the natural beauty of both the Tulip and Obeche wood. This process also protects the wood from the ageing process.
Painted White - If you require an ultra contemporary look this process creates a perfect matt white finish. We apply three layers of paint by hand, this ensures that the grain is covered and the wood is sealed. The layers are then plained back to even the wood and create a base for the final coats, the top coats are applied using a spray gun this creates a perfectly smooth finish. The end product is clean, contemporary and has a fresh appeal.

Spacer Slips
If you are looking to create a 'box' effect and you want your image to sit back from the acrylic then you require a spacer slip in your selected frame. The 'box' effect is created by the use of a wooden spacer slip; this slip sits between the acrylic and your image. This look is perfect for preserving delicate pieces of artwork.
